Shrimp bio load?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'd call it moderately planted. Not really looking to breed, so baby shrimp surviving or not isn't a huge issue...
Just if the population somehow does start to explode, I'll just toss them into my cichlid tank, lol.

^ in that case, yeah, should be okay... i mean some will survive... just that you probably won't have nearly as many as if it was a shrimp only tank...

You can keep far more shrimp in a tank than you might think. When I used to breed shrimp I would use 10g tanks. I would stock the tanks with java moss, guppy grass, and other fast growing plants that sucked nitrates out of the water. I had to do minimal water changes as a result. I counted over 300 red cherry shrimp in one tank (after netting them and moving them to another tank) and I stopped counting. They were in there for several months and were thriving. They have very little impact on the bioload of a tank and you can keep at least 30 per gallon in my experience.

Well I'm down one dwarf gourami, and up two bamboo shrimp and two ram cichlids (sold as Blue Rams, but I suspect Bolivians, which are better in my water anyway).

Still not found any cherry shrimp at any LFS around here, but I've looking at all the varieties at... planetinverts.com? Not sure if that's the correct site, I've got it marked at home but I'm on my phone on lunch break... Really digging the cherry shrimp and emerald greens...
