Pertaining to the larger new world cichlids is it ok to feed them the shrimp we buy from the market even though it is saltwater shrimp? If so is there any preparations that need to be done to it before feeding it to them?

It's perfectly fine but I'd peel the shell off, it will make it more appealing and easier for your cichlids to consume.

I always buy deveined and just peel then cut into appropriate sized pieces.

I've been serving my fish raw market shrimp for a long time. Shells off, veins don't really matter, but I do like to cut them into pieces, then stuff a pellet or two in them. Makes up for some of the nutrients shrimp lacks.

I've heard the shells are actually beneficial... Though I have yet to feed my fish grocery shrimp.. keep saying I am going to..

Used to feed it to the tank and the pond. Oscars, eels, knives and cats all loved it. So did the pacu. Bought it frozen thawed what was needed, peel the shell off and feed appropriate sizes. Peeled because of bad things I read about feeding aros.
