Shrimp for large cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Feed a piece to my jack once after having him for 9 years. He took the the whole shrimp in and spit the shell out. Looked like he was doing it his whole life.

By defrosting in water you will lose some of the nutrients. Just defrost it at room temperature.

While I've always taken the shells off myself, I've always thought it was kind of a funny thought that it had to be done.

I mean, is there someone out there in nature peeling shrimp for these fish so it's easier for them to eat?:grinno:

When you remove the shell you also remove most of the Astaxanthin a carotenoid that give cooked shellfish the red color. While removing the shell from large shrimp makes it eaiser for them to eat it isn't necessary for small shrimp, krill etc. It's better for them to leave a little on IMO.

These are not natural part of their diet. Some fish may pass it others may get clogged up or damaged internally. Your fish, take the chances you wish to but maybe read through some of the threads from people with experience and not quips.

I never did it with krill but large market shrimp yes.
