Shrimp turning RED

Hey, I cant seem to figure this one out....I bought a 'marbled?' (from petsmart) shrimp about a month ago, and it was brownish in coloration and then after I put it in my tank the shrimp turned reddish in color. At first I thought that it was just streesed in petsmart and didnt show its real color until it reached the paradise of my aquarium ;). But then bout a week ago I bought some amano shrimp, listed as cardina japonica from my lfs' provider, and I put em in my tank. In the begining I thought my raphael catfish had eaten them becuase I couldnt find them but today I found one of them and it has turned the same reddish color as the other shrimp! Ill try to post a picture, but have you guys encountere this before? my ph is around 7.4-7.6 and going down, could kh or gh have anything to do with this??

Never heard of a marbled shrimp. My guess would be a amano shrimp.

FYI cardina japonica is no longer the valid latin name for this species. Now it goes by the name cardina multidentata. I'll post more info on this in a new thread.
 
forgot to mention that this does not happen with any of my ghost shrimp and the "marbled" shrimp is the big one in petsmart for like 10 buck that feeds with the fan-like hands.

ive kept these long term in a heavily panted community tank and they turned really red. I always wondered if maybe it was the red clay substrate ? I dunno... but they were more red in my tank than at the lfs

been that for a while, think i posted it a while back
 
I think the large red shrimp petsmart carries are bamboo / wood shrimp. I have one and he is bright red (on whitish sand no less). Does he have a light colored band down his back?

I've heard them referred to as many names, including marbled I think.
 
They are bamboo shrimp like someone said, just labled marbled shrimp. Pretty cool fish, but will starve in "perfect" water. They need floating organics to feed off of.
 
All you'll need to do is crumble algae pellets, fish food etc near it so it can get a feed.

also known as singapore flower shrimp or wood shrimp. I feed mine freeze dried brine or blood worms. I have noticed that mine are bright red after a molt and gradually turn brown until they molt again.
