:irked:I have tried everything to get my 2 senegals to eat market shrimp.
I have tried mixing them with krill, defrosting them in tank water, in a bag floating in cold water, with the shell and without the shell and I have even cut them into bite sized pieces. I want them to eat the shrimp because it's cheaper than paying $5 for a little 5oz krill pack. Please feel free to tell me what I'm doing wrong.

i dont put them in water, put on a plate wait 30min. or so remove tails cut into bite size and my bichirs love them

How big are they? Because mine was about 6" or 7" before it started to eat market shrimp.

I have some old shrimps about a 1yr old frozen. Do fish know if shrimp is bad? Is this safe to feed my fish?

I would skip on the old shrimp bro. If it's no good for us, it's no good for them.

I would suggest that you soak the krill and shrimp together. Get the sent of the krill well into the shrimp. Then remove the krill. Dump the shrimp and water into the tank. This should get them to respond. I would do this for at least a week. When they get hungry enough, they will take it.

What I would do is just starve them for like a week or so and then offer them the shrimp. It should be bite size with shell off so it'll be easier for them to eat and digest. If they don't eat it at first, I would try again every couple of days until they learn to eat the shrimp. Make sure your bichirs are healthy first before starving them. If after a couple of weeks they still haven't eaten anything, then give them the krill and start over.

I agree with starving, but also cut the shrimp into smaller bite sized chunks.

my little ornate is only 4 inch n it already started to eat shrimp. once it tasted shrimp it just wont touch the squid that i fed it.

the male is probably 8'' and the female is like 7.5''. yes i have defrosted the shrimp and krill together, but still nothing. i have tried starving them, but i didn't go for a week more like 5 days (i love my bichirs too much!) so ya i guess ill just keep offering it lol. thanks
they have eaten a little bit but not a lot. oh does i matter what kind of shrimp it is?? mine is raw and it's gray (dont know if thats fresh or saltwater shrimp)
