Shut off filters while feeding?

I do the same thing. Except I also run an airstone.
I keep the air pump and a heater on a second smaller power strip. That way I can just shut off the main power strip, drop in the airstone and heater, and flip the switch. Once the water level drops below the overflows, I drop in the food.
Works great during sump maintenence too.

I turn my filters off for about 30 minutes at feeding time, every time. Never had an issue. Just don't forget to turn them back on or that would very likely suck.

Only problem is if you forget to turn them back on. I'm forgetful so it's a no for me.

I leave 'em running, my fish nab the food so fast I really don't see the point. And I would be the guy that forgot and left the filters off over night.

Sounds like most people agree.....

Shutting off filters for a short time for feeding = no harm, no foul.

Forgetting to turn them back on in a timely manner = possible disaster ;P

never thought about doing that, my overflow kinda defeats the purpose of feeding flakes or floating pellets though.

Yes I had this problem when I had flake eaters, moved them to a smaller tank, flakes and over flows are not good friends.

Only problem is if you forget to turn them back on. I'm forgetful so it's a no for me.

I have done this, luckly I woke up out of my sleep like oh SNAP.

My Oscar is like a bolt of lightning when it comes to eating, I can dump a big amount of cichlid pellets and his greedy behind snatches them up in like 30 seconds. He is so greed he follows my around my tank, I can be in the back doing filter work, I look up and there he is staring at me wanting food. He follows my face, if I put it up to the tank and move it around he chases it. I have to feed twice, once to feed him and a second time to feed the other fish.
