Shy arowana, how to overcome

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my aro, but is asian aro, tends to hid at the side when it is dark and swim around when it is bright...

your tank lights seems dark... maybe try white light.....

And what i do now for a 6ft tank is to have a 3ft light on one side of tank only so he can have brightness or darkness depending on his mood

I agree with what has been said, silver aros can be skittish for a long time especially if the tank is in a place where there is no traffic and she only sees you once or so a day
approach the tank slowly and relax.. they feel it when you tense
I also think a bit more light in the tank will help
As for other aros with a silver, I agree with Bigfishnut Bigfishnut .. It doesn't usually work unless you have a massive tank and more than two aros
We have tried a silver with a RTG... if we didn't separate them, I think it would have ended badly..

My aro is about 10 inches. Very calm. Eats from my hand etc etc.

He HATES my red shirt. If i wear a red shirt it totally freaks him out. Do you have any color triggers around the tank?

It is so funny that you mention this..
My son has the silver aro in one of his tanks.. not me. However we live on same property and share the hobby and help each other
Last year while he was on holiday and i fed all the fish, i had a red shirt which i could swear annoyed Dragon terribly because if i wore it, he wouldnt eat
I mentioned it to him on his return and they all laughed at me so.. never really thought about it again
I had a good laugh at your post, maybe i wasnt crazy after all!!

Which will be less aggressive with silver

Try black aro. I have silver and black in 210 gallon since March this year. They were about 10" when I got them. First 3 weeks no fight. Week four silver became very agressive toward black aro for almost one month. I was about to rid of the silver when suddenly they all friend again until now.

I have been trying to upload 30 second video wo success.
