I recently added 2 more clown loaches to the 4 I already had in my tank, which also houses a young GT and some giant danios. The 4 originals are always very active, swimming everywhere, even at the surface. After a day or two, one of the new ones had joined the pack, so I had 5 happy loaches. The 2nd new one, however, seems to prefer hiding in a cave all day, only coming out if there is a meal to be had. Its hard to get a get look at it, but I've noticed its colors seem a bit worse, and there is a tiny little piece missing from the top edge of its tail fin.

Is it sick? Injured? I don't see anything wrong at all other than that, and it is a tiny injury.

When did you buy the two loaches? Give it a few more days before it joins the group. How are the colors worse? Could you please describe it?

I bought them maybe 3 or 4 days ago. The colors are not as bright, like they are washed out or faded.

Still stressed out. Just give it a few more days.:)

my diagnosis is that the loach is still stressed out.. give it a few days.. and about the fin, could you post some pics? it would give us a better understanding of the situation.. thanks!

I doubt I can get any pictures of it. It hides in a cave the whole time. There is just a tiny littly bit of tail missing, maybe a millimeter across, or less. It is on the top edge of the fin though.

I've been gone for the past 10 days or so, plus lightning decided it didn't like me and fried the motherboard on my computer, so I haven't been on MFK in a while.

The loach is still very shy. It hides in a cave almost exclusively, and only comes out during water changes, and sometimes if there is food. The damage on its tail seems unchanged. It seems healthy though; it doesn't appear to be sick.

Any more ideas? I have a hard time believing it is still stressed out. The other one I bought at the same time is indistinguishable from the original 4.
