He is probably just settling into his new environment. Be careful that the 30g is a mere growout because a 180g+ will be required within the next year. Make sure the water parameters are suitable, good luck

yea the 30 g is a gorw out only tank when he reaches about 5 inches he will be in a 150

I understand some Dovii can be very shy and others very boisterous. Since you've only had him for 3 days, it's hard so say which one he is. I agree with fish addict that he is just getting accustomed to his new tank. I have done this before and the first week or so the Dovii is shy and reserved. If he is solo, he'll probably become owner responsive as mine did and eventually he'll learn to come out to the front and ask for food. Give him time. If he is solo, he'll might just become a glass banger...

If you're looking to draw him out a bit, you might want to try throwing in some live food in there...guppies or minnows work well. Dithers won't work in a 30 g since he'll just catch them and eat them.

Good Luck!

I have 4 I am growing out now they are nervous but come out and I have had them for around 3 months...the reason there shy is the are small and in the wild would have to worry about becoming someone's dinner. The larger they get the less shy they will become..also being new like said above they are becoming accumulated. If I feed mine pellets they only eat 1or 2 and then are to worried to get anymore....krill and shrimp sinks so they eat until they are about to blow up. Also I have read that once they get around 12" they really become what Dovii are known for.

I have a female dovii that was 6" and super shy. I had her for months and she never warmed up to me. When I walked in the room she would always hide. I got rid of her, I couldn't stand the hiding.

yeah... shy fish my parents cleaned my room and bumped my tank or sumthin my 3" JD and my 4" flowerhorn are very shy now wont even say hello to me any more :*(

I don't know if you would call it shy or just a wuss but I had a 5" male dovii in my 265. The original inhabitants of the tank was a pair of angelfish. Plain old Petsmart angelfish. (I know not a really good combo to begin with but the angels were being moved to a smaller tank) The angels tormented my dovii to the point that the dovii died. No kidding. I guess it all depends on the temperment of the individual fish. In my case, the fish was a wuss. Might have something to do with all the inbreeding of captive fish. Maybe the nastyness is being bred out of them. Who knows.

my 6" male dovii is shy also. i've had him for 2 months. he tore up everything i throw in the tank.. from other dovii to red devils. but when he's alone... all he does is hide
