I had the same doubts when I got my Jar. He was so reclusive for the first few months I almost sold him. Now he's over a foot, happily eats from my hand (or eats my hand itself if I'm not careful!), begs at the surface when I walk by, etc. etc. Without a doubt my fav. fish I've every owned. Hang in there
