Hi

I brought some baby RBP a few days ago and they seem really shy. I researched them a bit before buying them, and read that they would be.

If I hide in my bedroom then they are really active, but as soon as I show my ugly face, they dart off back behind the filter.

I've heard that moonlight/redlight may make them a bit less shy, and that putting colouring the water with peat may help. Is this true?

Any other advice will be greatly recieved :grinyes:

its only been a few days so they're bound to be skittish. My RBP's were skittish for ages. One of them was fine after a week but the others took a month or so.. SO just give them sometime. Make sure you have plenty of hiding spaces as well...

Do they freak out everytime you turn on the lights

they are correct. ive been keeping them for months now and yet theyre still skittish are they are naturally.

they will get the hang of your face " I hope".

i also read somewhere that dimmed lights are good for them

I've got a standard flouressent tube in there. They don't seem too bothered wether its on or off tbh. I've got a few hiding places, but i think it might be better with more?

1 of them seems pretty hardcore though, he swims around no worries, its just the other 5 that seem scared.

just give them awhile. and if you can give them more hiding places.
I hope this works. I had a snakehead that was super shy. And so i thought more hiding spaces = less shy. But no. As soon as i went barebottom with that snakehead it came out more and became super active. But i'\m pretty sure with p's you gotta have hiding places

I would put peat in the filter to color the water. The darker water is easier on them especially when you turn on the lights. I think they will be fine after a while. Good luck

Chad

RBP are normally skittish. My RBP's come to me when I feed them, but they always go nuts when they see something not normal.

They will just develop confidence when they grow bigger but still skittish at times.

I BOUGHT MY RBP AT ABOUT THE 1INCH MARK THEY HIDE ALL THE TIME BUT THE MORE YOURE AROUND THE TANK THEY WILL GET USE TO IT NOW EVERYDAY WHILE I WATCH THEM THEY COME UP TO THE FRONT AND WATCH ME.
