if it is being too shy try adding some dither fish, like a school of large active tetras or giant danios

super red sounds like a aro

Thanks for that lovely input.

On topic, I don't think Severum tankmates will help as they can quite often be very aggressive towards eachother. I'm going to say give it some time and move around the tank a lot to try and het it used to movement.

Japes my boy, back on top form ;)

Joe, i mean this in a nice way, but, sounds like your very new to cichlids.

If he's eating, then all is well, he's just sulking.

My sevs have never been great pigs on their food (especially when there was no competition for it)

should i add another red sev

If you do, it'll be a male (trust me), so that'll just cause more issues.

Just keep giving him treats like blood worm, brine shrimp etc, keep the lights low, try and avoid alot of "tank traffic".

All the usual stuff for cichlids really, he'll come round in no time.

yes i am kinda new to cichlids so should i get some dithers and how many in my 75 gallon i can get giant danio at my lfs cheap, and i should stray away from another severum do to aggresion will he becom less skitish and more friendly over time and what should i try feeding him

Grammar and punctuation are your friends Joe ;)

Feeding -
blood worm, brine shrimp etc
Good staple pellet and flake while hes small. Greens are important to ALL Members of the Heros species too.

Dont need dithers, i'd be tempted to add a good honest gold female into the fix. tanks big enough, see if it works, but be prepared to divide the tank if problems arise.

Severums dont really become "friendly" in my opinion. They have a personality, but they wont come greet you at feeding time etc.

Ok thankyou very much. I appreciate all the great help , but i have one more question where can i find a good honest gold severum around 2 to 4 inch size for my tank. I can only get small ones in the 1 ich to 1 1/2 inch range around here. Does anyone have any on here for sale.

My biggest sev is a rotkeil. It was super shy and aggressive at the same time - hiding behind the driftwood and chasing all other fish away.

Funny thing is, as I added more sevs to the tank, it became less aggressive and came out more and more. Now, ten more sevs later, it's out all the time and rarely shows any aggression.

So the simple explanation is that it feels safer now, and probably gave up on the idea of having its own territory because there are so many fish :).

P.S. If you get one "piggy fish" in the tank, sometimes all other fish would start eating like pigs...
