The water I had was very nervous the entire time I had him, just like yours he didn't eat in front of me or walk around when anyone was looking. Might be a good idea to back off the handling and let him get familiar with you on his terms, he should calm down in time...hope so because the last thing you want is a nervous huge monitor.

Why do you worm them, and what type are you using? Its highly not recommended to worm reptiles due to the fact that not enough scientific research has been done on their digestive system, and most of the dewormers available are not even for reptiles.

No Im not and if thats where you got it from then youre animal might be in trouble, only qualified exotic vets should administer these kinds of antibiotics.

Would love to hear more about this...I hear all over how it's necessary to worm w/c herps as a matter of course. I never have because I personally don't think it's an issue unless the parasite load is so heavy that the animal can't keep weight on (saw a sav like this once and worming took care of it)...and if they're in that condition I don't buy them to begin with.

If kept properly in terms of temp, quarantine, food, and water.... then they should be able to pass the parasites just fine. Just like you said if the animal is beyond the point of fighting the parasites its not worth buying because it is at a point of no return regardless of the anti parasiticals you perform on it.

OK then we're on the same page then. I know some importers/dealers just worm everything and that almost seems like using a hammer to swat the fly on your nose :) I did have one monitor (a Dumeril's) that had worms but they cleared up on their own...I think a lot of these worms have complex lifes cycles and once they're out of the wild the worm can't complete its life cycle and multiply.
