Siamese Algae Eater Breeding?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey, did they ever breed? As my pair where doing exactly the same thing recently and now my female is getting heavier. I actually caught it on video, but they where doing exactly as you described including losing their stripe!

They just play around. I used to have a huge group of them. This is normal and fun to watch. Mine chase each other all over the place. They circle each other and whip threw the tank.

Hey, I know this post is old but I thought I would add some info. First of all the real siamese algae eaters are not aggressive and very social, there are plenty of fish that look like sae but are territorial. Their proper name is chrossocheilus oblongus( previously siamensis expalining their name). They are one of the best algae eaters around and have been bred in captivity although it is rare.

Their breeding dance is pretty much like the dance that the TS describe they circle each other and colour fades in and out. After this they, if you are lucky will put their eggs in a suitable spot, and then they protect their eggs until they hatch. Fry can be fed artemia until they are big enough for usual fish foods. No particular water parameters.
