HI
I know this is a stupid Question,But I need to know the answer and your guys opinions...:screwy:
Is it a good idea to put a Siamese in with Mollies that I am breeding for live feed?

1. Is it safe for the fighter or will the mollies bug him and bit his fins?
2. will the mollies still breed if he is in the tank, it is a 10g tank?

Please let me know what you guys and girls think.

Thank you

There's a chance that the Mollies may nip at his fins, but I don't really see that happening much. The Mollies will still breed and the Betta will more likely eat the fry.

I am planning on putting the female Mollie in a breeding box to keep the fry away from the rest of the fish.

Is there a better way to breed fish like this or do I have to just watch and hope to save all the fry?

Are guppies and sword tail fish easier to breed than mollies?

What would you guys suggest?

the betta wont do nothing to the mollies unless they fit in his mouth

I disagree.

I had 3 mollies in my 20g. My brother came home with a betta one day and wanted it to live in my 20g (no he didn't ask me before buying it). The betta was shy at first hiding in and around plants, very rarely coming out. By day 3 he was swimming around normally but he sometimes flared his gills up at the other mollys. I was hesitant to let him stay in there after seeing him showing aggression to the mollys. Day 4 all 3 mollys were dead. The betta harassed them to death.

Moral of the story: Stick a betta in with mollys at your own risk but I dont recommend it. If you do deside to do it make sure you have a backup plan incase the betta shows aggresion. I shot glass should do just fine. :headbang2

EDIT:

I didn't see any fin nipping done by the mollys when I had them with the betta.

Mollies are pretty good with their fry, IMO. Just keep them well fed. I used to have Mollies and they bred like crazy. Guppies on the other hand will definitely eat their fry. Mollies and Guppies seem to be the easiest. Swordtails are pretty easy also, but I didn't have any babies that I knew of when I had some. So my suggestion would be Mollies.

Thank you all for you advice I think I will keep the fighter in a 8gal tank it should be fine and the I want to put in sword tails with my Mollies

Bettas are unpredictable, some ignore other species, some treat everything that moves as a mortal enemy.
Keeping him in a seperate tank is a good idea.
