hi, im thinking about getting a Siamese tiger fish but read that they only grow 1 inch a year! can anyone tell me if this is true? and if it would be ok to put 1 baby Siamese tiger fish with two baby oscars while they grow big enough to go in with a jardini (different tank from the jardini). thanks glen

I assume your talking about datnoides? Yes they grow pretty slow but I think you can expect a little more than an inch a year , I got one from about 2" to 4" in about six months. I dont know if your oscars can hang with a jardini though I tried and failed ... but each fish is differant good luck and happy fishkkeping

i put a jardini in with my oscars and he tried it on my oscars the albino is the tough one he smashed the jardini but in the end all my peacock bass would hide up the corner of the tank the jardini would try it on my red snakehead so he would have to headbutt him out of the way and he would try it on the albino when he had his back turned in the end i had to get rid of him, i wouldnt have another 1 again they are just too nasty you should of saw him take out a red comet at dinner time, iv had 3 datnoids and yeah i can say they are slow growing i know a man who had a 1 inch and its now 7 years old and is 14 inches so you can see there its only done 2 inch per year which sounds about right, what are RTG like in terms of aggression? they nasty at all or is it just jardini thats super nasty?

Not all dats are slow growers. Depends on their caretaker...how much time you have to do wc's and feed. I raised some from half inch to 9in in a year. The average size of mine are 7ish.

wow thats really good growth in a year what was you doing to achieve that then how often WC and what percent? were you power feeding also? and what type of datnoid were they?

I have not tracked the growth of gangsters fish so I can't say if it is a lie or not but one inch per year is an exaggeration, probably for any of the dat species.

Mine have grown about 2 inches so far in 3 months. I think they have a point where they hit and start growing slow

If you get a 1incher in the first year you can get them up to 6inches powerfeeding them but every year after that the growth rate slows right down and the bigger they get the slower the growth is. When they are big you'll have a hard time noticing a growth.

How many did you have in the pack when they were a "dime" size and how many do you have now? Updated photos please.
