My spotted just turned 20 and every time I think he must be dead he waddles out of the shadows then disappears back into his log

I have a young, small spooted catfish as well - but we rarely see him, always hiding and must come out at night to feed.
I think, due to old age, his immune system is weak and it’s some type of infection. His back turned white, than fungus-like stuff grew on it. But I don’t think it’s worth removing and medicating - too old.
Yeah not worth getting him more stressed. Good water and maybe a bit of salt would give him a good enough environment. Good luck ?
