Sick bearded dragon?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Egg binding can be bad, sometimes...but not always. Each reptile is different. A bearded dragon won't die just cause it hasn't breed, thats a dumb myth. I would take your beardie in to see a vet to check for parasites or whatnot. They shouldnt brumate(reptile version of hibernating) unless the temps stay down below 65 degrees consitantly. What bulbs are you using? My little man Marvin was just under a reptisun 10.0 and the UVB wasnt strong enough so he got sluggish. Switched him to a mega ray MVB bulb and now he is a fuiesty speed demon again. :nilly:

I really don't know, just the generic type of heat lamp that you can get at walmart, a uv-spectrum type light, and a compact flourescent bulb (hubby says they do the uv light too). I'll open the curtain to let some sunlight in as well.
She is pale, so she might be shedding soon.
She's also really upset, like she's in pain...but she's moving around and she let me pet her a little bit ago without hissing or biting, so maybe she's not too bad. I'll still talk to my husband about taking her to a vet when he gets home from work today.

Thanks everyone for your help, I'm kind of a lizard noob.

Ok, so you have three bulbs? A heat lamps, a flourescent tube bulb, and what kind of UV bulb? To be honest, she really may not be getting enmough UV. Flourescent bulbs don't really do that much in the grand scheme of things.

Everyone is awesome, and very helpful. My username is the same on there if you need anymore help. Please let me know what kind of UV bulb you have if possible.

I'm sorry I don't know anything about the UV light, other than it glows kind of blue..:(

Right now Ryuu is soaking in a warm water bath, I'm hoping it helps. She's eaten all winter long and hasn't pooped yet, so hopefully a water soak will help her with that.

She's really awake and alert now, looking around and she's been rubbing against my hand when I pet her, so I think she's feeling a little better.

Double post, but an update:

I took her out of the water bath just about a minute ago, her colors are back to normal and she's very calm, she actually fell asleep when I had her wrapped in a towel to dry off. :) Will check on her in another hour or so, when my husband gets home.

yeah it sounds like it may not be warm enough in her tank, you really only need one strong light, and the brand of reptile lamp doesnt really matter so much as the actual bulb inside it, so you can use the lamp you got from wal-mart just make sure it has a good FULL SPECTRUM bulb in, they need both UVA and UVB bulbs and not all emit the latter, you have to specifically look on the box where it says what it emits or if it says full spectrum or only UVA
