So I have been treating my little guy since last week when I got him, with both protazol and Tetra IP fizz tablets and last night and today he has taken a turn for the worse. He stopped eating yesterday, then stopped swimming by night and sat on the ground, wouldnt move for anything. I got home and put him back in the 3gallon to medicate and come home today to find him no moving, with both eyes hazed over. I just added some salt, and the meds, to the hospital tank again and moved him from his sitting place and now he is literally just letting the current toss him around. What can we do?

His eyes also seem to be bulging from his head much more than a usual babies would. If that means anything...

When they're this far gone, there is usually no hope. I'm sorry. :(

its been three hours and rapidly deteriorating, color gone, no strength. Keeps getting stuck to the filter no matter how hard his swims. Eyes look like huge balloons now, which is really creepy. Gasping for air. I tried... Feel terrible though. Wish I could put him down humanely but im just gonna have to let him go. RIP Lucky.

Now, I have one big empty tank again. Where do I begin to find a reputable place to find a healthy little one.

Get clove oil from your drugstore & keep it on hand for euthanizing. It's in the toothache section.

Ill keep that in mind if I ever have to go through this again. Thats on fish store though that is now off my list of places to buy fish from. They had multiple hospital tanks set up and this little guy was clearly sick and he was just in the back to himself.

Pufferpunk, thanks for your help. Any chance you could point me in the direction of a reputable place to get a new little one from?

That seems kind of mean... No?

I wouldn't like to die in a freezer.

Just keep trying the different LFS around. Fahakas are seasonal.

It is an alternative. Some people use clove oil then freeze, and some just freeze. What happens is, as it gets colder the metabolism of the fish slows. Heart and breathing slow down till fish sleeps and dies. I believe it is humane. But who knows what it is like for the fish.
