I wouldn't try force feeding it, it will just get stressed. It will survive for mo this without food, just keep the lights off, pleanty of hiding spaces and water changes, after a few days offer some live food like small worms from a bait shop, river shrimp from lfs or blood worm.

Trying to force it does seem stressful. If it’s managing to hide then it should be fine with a rest. These fish eat like pigs but they can also go a long time without food, but what ever you decide to do I hope it works mate.
 
sorry for taking that long to post back with more news...unfortunately my Fire eel died two days after the intervetion of the vet....
