I have been treating my tank for a severe case of ich for the past week and it has just about completely clear up. I have been doing 1 tea spoon for every gallon and mixing prior to dosing every 12 hrs with a water change every 24 hours.

In the past 36 or so hours my flowerhorn has been acting funny. He sits at either the top of the tank or the bottom of the tank without a lot of movement. I have also noticed his fins are starting to more or less break apart. It is has gotten very bad over the course of the day. I also had a gold nugget die on me last night. I have 2 bichirs and a convict who all show no signs of any illness.

Water conditions are great as well. I do weekly water changes, and only feed a couple times a day in small amounts.

Please help, don't want to wake up to a dead flower horn!

I have been using api aquarium salt but I want to verify if this salt is ok?

So I guess lupin is not available at the moment. A shame he is the only person on this entire board that knows anything about illness.

I always use the noxich and Ive found it works pretty well although in a pinch ive also used the powder packets of ich will stop that also works pretty good getting back to your flowerhorn it sound like fin rot someone else that knows about this can correct me if Im wrong if so youre using the wrong medication also did you raise the temperature in your tank? I hope your flowerhorn makes it sucks to lose fish

you should only add aquarium Salt and i would do a bigger water change and dont add salt because if the water evaporates the salt still will be in the tank so add some fresh water use some prime to take the chlorine out and and nitrate and ammonia and see if that helps

I am doing everything all of your say already. Nothing to cure this fin rot that has crushed my fish in less then 24 hrs?

Everyone say a prayer for my flower horn. I did a big water change tonight and I think that is all I can do right now. Hope he is around in the morning!

Good luck man, I hope he makes it too. You are in our prayers. Maybe you can use melafix for fin rot.

Iodized salt is fine. There is no reason why you cannot use it, not unless it contains yellow prussiate which should not be used at all as it generates a toxic substance once exposed to sunlight.

Greg, did you dissolve the salt when you add? How much salt was added so far? 2 teaspoons per gallon is the max I would do since you have plecos. I'm sorry to hear you lost your precious pleco. The bichirs and convict should be fine as long as they are not stressed. Please slow down the water change. You're risking them into osmotic shock. I'm so sorry to delay my response. Been havingf a lot on my plate today.

And guys, let's not aggravate this by suggesting other meds. Switching meds constantly will kill his fish faster than consistently using the same.
