Here you go....The "bio filtration" is different on your tank. You need to get some established bio media and put it in the tank. It will spread like crazy.
Biological filtration is little microscopic beneficial bacteria, that consume ammonia nitrites and nitrates.
When your tank is new (or was not cycled properly in the first place) there is no biological bacteria.
When you grow a copious amount you will notice the change.
The water will be clear as heck and your fish will be spunky and full of color. The bio bacteria is single handedly the most important part of keeping fish. Without bio bacteria fish can NOT live.
You can even get some gravel from someone you trust or a good lfs, and seed the tank that way.
Seeding is simple you just put bio media from an established tank in to your tank to "speed" things up a bit and cheat the "cycle" a bit also
