My jag seems to be sick. when I got off shift last week I did a water change on Wednesday, on Thursday I went to a somewhat local lfs for some food and wound up buying three medium comets. Well anyway I put the three comets in with the jag and he didn't even chase or pay any attention. I turned the lights off and in the morning they were gone. Now I know every ones feeling about live feeders but this is about a once a year thing and they were pretty big. my water is fine I do about 80 percent once a week. He seemed a little listless for the last Cpl days but now he is just on the bottom and won't even come see me and his dorsal fin and tail are kinda flat, something that never happens. he is usually always flared out and at the glass when anything even the cat enters the room. I said before I thought he was a few years old but the wife swears seven, do you suppose he just ate too much?

here is a picture

I regularly fed my jags live and never any problems. You really don't know if it was the comets.

No I actually don't think it was, they were from the fish store but did look healthy. The only thing I usually feed live is night crawlers but haven't done that for a Cpl months because of availability. I thought maybe he just ate too much?

Just watch him. I really don't think it is much you can do. It really sounds as though he is just a little lethargic. My jags would get like that from time to time.

If he was healthy before the feeders then odd's are the feeder's are in some way responsible for what ever is going on with his Jag, maybe you got lucky and he's in a "food coma" or it could be much worse.
If you insist on feeding your fish pet store feeders it's only a matter of time before it kills them. Of all the fish you could use as feeders gold fish are the worse, they have no nutritional value at all, they're fatty and rich in Thiaminase both of which are not good for your aquarium pets.

In my opinion of course

Well he seemed to be ok, although when I put the fish in he just ignored them for two hours. That in itself is pretty strange when the cat can't walk by without it flaring up, or scrub the tank without him trying to bite. But he was swimming around.

7 years is good going for a cichlid in captivity, maybe old age is catching up with him... would be odd if it wasn't the comets tho... good luck. how big is he? looks huge! any pics of him in full health flaring up?-)

Feed him some peas and add salt, could be constipated, just a thought with a large meal it's a high possibility.
