Sick Motoro

What test kit are you using that doesn't have a zero? If you are using strips I would advise you to get a liquid test kit.

Without the proper information it is next to impossible to help you. You also never provided an actual PH reading from the tank or tap. You should never think about the size of the tank when considering filtration but always the bio load. Filter manufacturers do not take large freshwater rays into acount when stating filter capacity.

The white poop could more easily be caused by stress than parasites. I am not trying to be a jerk but in the majority of the cases where a ray stops eating the simplest answer which would be water quality is the cause.

Again I appologize if I come off wrong but IF you are having water issues you need to get them sorted quickly before dammage is done.

PH was 7.5 inside the tank and also 7.5 from the tap. Our tap water is very good here. GH and KH readings are steady around 80. I use a liquid Tetra Laborett test kit that only shows nitrIte readings .3 or LESS. Although it does not show actual zero, I know for a fact my numbers are there, at 0. Ammonia readings do have a zero chart, and mine were and are currently at zero. I'm well aware that manufacturers rate filters well above what they can actually handle. I've raised koi for years and know the bio load they can produce. I use an Aquarium Pharmacuticals nitrAte test kit. The filters I have setup could handle three rays in this tank (of course I would never do that). My nitrAte readings continue to drop through the regular daily water changes. The ray is still not very active and hanging around the bottom. She leaves little clumps of slime behind her that the substrate clings to.

Could they be adding more chlorine than usual to your tap water or are you on a well? Could your water conditioner be expired? Do you feed anything besides massivore such as frozen seafood? There has to be something we are missing.

I have only heard of excess slime coat because of either stress or water conditions. Maybe someone else can chime in but I still really doubt this is parasite related. Sorry I can't be of more help keep trying to think of things I hope she turns around for you

The Prime bottle is only 4 months old so I doubt its expired. I also have Amquel+ and sodium thiosulfate crystals if need be. I only feed Massivore, nothing else. I did notice late last night that one of her eyes appears to half full of blood. It's very odd. She also has a little damage to the tip of her tail. There are no other tank mates in there and the couple of small rocks are completely round with no sharp edges. The only thing with an edge would be the Fluval canister intake if she somehow could have hurt herself on that? She still wont eat this morning but does slowly and occasionaly move around the bottom. NitrAte is now at virtually zero with the water changes.

At some point you might want to consider trying some nightcrawlers to see if she would show more interest in live. Just to get her eating again before she gets skinny. You might want to add some pictures to see if anyone can help

I will go and get some crawlers this afternoon, although she has never eaten them before, maybe the live action will help entice her. She buried herself in the sand just before the pic but you can see her eye. There is also what looks like a small bite mark in the front almost center of her disc. I noticed that last night as well. I have no idea what she injured herself on but if this is from the same incident, I need to find what she got hurt on.

Keep an eye on that missing spot as it could be disk errosion which could be bacterial and may explain a lot of her problems. I would guess she was thrashing around the tank and ran into either the filter or the glass for the eye problem. She looks like a very nice super spot from what I can see. I hope you can get things sorted out she still looks pretty plump so I don't think your in panic mode yet which is good news

Wish I could be of more help but I am pretty stumped. Hopefully someone else can be of more assistance

I got some worms and put one in this evening. It landed on her and she got scared and moved away from it. She still moves very slowly and not too often. She did seem slightly interested in it and went over the top of it, but would not eat it. Earlier in the day I saw her hit her disc down against the sand a few times; as if she was irritated about something. In 8 years of keeping koi fish, the only time they ever flashed or scraped anything was when they had flukes. That was easy to confirm as I scraped a slide and viewed the flukes under a microscope. 100% confirmation with that one. I would have no idea how to safely get a scrape of a ray. Since Prazi is pretty gentle, I did a label treatment of the tank and will let that go for the full 5 or 6 days. Current water conditions are perfect. The temp is between 78.5 to 80 and stays within that range at all times. I don't know what else to do but I'm getting worried about the lack of interest in food.

Hmm being that she is from the Amazon and that water temperature can go as high as 85, you may want to increase the temp. This may help reduce stress. From the best of my memory, increasing the temperature will increase immune system response as well as healing. Also when I had a motoro, he would go on food strikes from time to time. Had him for two years in a 75 gallon and fed him peeled shrimp. I changed the water weekly and would change the water more frequently during food strikes. He died due to a fire. He as a marble motoro too. Damn sweet fish.

even with 4x the amount needed for that size of tank, you can still get crashes and ammonia/nitrite spikes if you don't clean the tank of excess foods and poop/do water changes often. it can happen quite rapidly.
