Sick Oscar looking for info

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Alot of good knowledge and I THANK YOU all for it,,
So i had my water tested and the amonia was off the charts!!! everything else was at par.
so i did a 30% water change, new filters, stress coat x, and chlorine remover, no feeding tonight even tho thats killing me watching them come to me as im checking on them,

yes i have nothing right now in the bottom, was switching from gravel to sand and while i had the gravel out for a week i realize how much easier it was to keep clean so i left it like that, down side im a freak so im always vacuuming every little thing out so its always spotless, so in my mind if i can see how clean and spotless it is im assumeing everything is fine..

my worry is the oscar is showing damage,,, i see no signs from the others so i hope there ok......

Now on the filters again i figured i had the the right one for a 75 gal.
i will keep you posted and maybe the next set of pic. he will be in good health again

i am doing 25% once a week and thats when i was cleaning the filters,
not enough??

No with that stock and that small of a filter you should be doing 50% per day. You need to treat your oscar with metro and either get at least a 180g or get rid of some fish and get a large filter to add.

and again YES I KNOW THAT MY FISH (WILL) NEED A BIGGER TANK WICH I HAVE, ..JUST NEED TO MAKE THE ROOM FOR IT, AND GET THE PROPER TOYS TO RUN IT, i have a 180.. building stand now... really... 50% a day seems like that would kill them all,, thats why im at were im at cause of the new water, i dont believe it has to be anywheres near that, before i started rinsing the filters with tap water i would just buy them every two week, and still did 25% once a week and the water has been great, once i started rinsing with tap thats when it went down hill, have had the tank set up for two years with the same fish, the aro is new three months ago, just think i have really bad tap water,,,,,

if you dont agree with lipadj46 then I agree. You should be doing 60 to 70 a day to keep the fish healthy in that small of a tank. Im in the same boat as you with setting up a 180 for future fish but they are still very young and i do 50 2x a week which isnt enough. You need to understand that oscars are super messy and 25 a week is not even close to enough. 50 a week is bare minimun imo for any fish tank no matter what the fish. And an aro cant live in a 180 anyway so thats another fault.

Research then purchase, I have done exactly the same thing you have with purchasing fish and then awaiting a bigger tank. I realized my mistake and ive payed by doing heavy w/c's.

Do heavier water changes or your fish wont get healthy its as simple as that

yes i still have alot to learn,, didnt want the aro yet but that was the fish that got me started,, my friend has one and he let me feed it and i was hooked,, so i started a tank, i came home from work with the aro in my tank as a gift from my girl, she had my friend help with the details so im like **** i better get started on that other tank!!! she has no clue except thats a fish and i wanted one, she didnt get the how much they can be concept either, so when she paid that amount i was very pleased!! i know that long term it shouldnt live in a 180, but i got it on a part of a trade so im gonna work with what i have for a year or so, 220s or bigger are hard to come by in my neck of the woods unless you go new and buy out of state and with shipping cost these days, thinking a plywood tank for the future, i have the skills to do it so thats not a big deal and have seen nice builds done on here, gonna get some more meds for him tomorrow and keep ya posted,
again thanks

My filter say its doing 400 gph,, so doesnt the mean im right around 5 time an hour??

It IS NOT 400GPH, it is 400LPH or roughly 106gph, but this is without media. So figure 100gph if your lucky. NOT enough!
