have you tested the water yet yourself? that would save a lot of the hassle

my oscar used to curl up and lie on the bottom in a corner when the ph was wrong. get a test kit NOW. and some ph adjusters, youll need them anyway, get the ph 2 about 7.0
also once he is better he might get a little hungry and have a snack on your bala shark and pleco, IF he is like mine (i lost a pleco and nearly a clown loach)=(

I would not mess with the pH unless it is at the extreme sides of the spectrum...trying to adjust it will be uneccesary at this time considering that the oscar isn't doing too well
