Sick Pleco!! need help

Can anybody identify what is wrong with my pleco.
He is about 5 years old and just recently started going to the top of the tank and grabbing air and now has white stringy fungus or something all over his body and flowing off his tail. (SEE PICS)

i have been keeping fish for years and never had a case of ick so i did not know what it looked like

or do you think adding more salt would be a better treatment?

some people pump up the temp and then add salt there is a sticky on this sight i have just used the tetra brand ick meds mix that with like a half gallon of water for your tank let the tabs dissolve and add the solution worked in one day al ick was gone.

No copper, no salt. Use Ick-Guard II or just plain formalin. Gentle enough for scaleless fish and works every time.

salt and heat always works for me 2 days and it will be gone

how much salt would you recommend for a 55g tank. and i have raised the temp to 84
