! Sick Sea Robin !

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
WOW...He does look awful....Try using MELAFIX by AQUARIUM PHARMACUTICALS...Its a natural herbal medicine that will help the spots of lost scales and fins grow back....It works miracles!!!

Jen ;) GOOD LUCK!!!

I looked a bit deeper and found some products that can be used in brackish and salt tanks if it is bacterial fin rot (it does not look like fungal fin rot) and can be used even if the rot started at damage points. Look for products containing Furacyn, neomycin, kanacyn, spectrogram, sulfa based drugs, or nitrofuracyn. These are good gram negative antibiotics so try to use in a quarantine tank with mechanical filters and water changes, they tend to kill off biological filters.
Two other things I have seen mentioned that cause that ragged look, especially in cool water salt fish are chronic exposure to low levels of ammonia, and chronic low ph, your ammonia should be zero and your ph should match the water where you caught it. If these are off try several partial water changes over a couple weeks, check those first, before medicating. Many salt and brackish fish need a ph around 8.5 but if that is off you need to adjust it slowly over several days.

Ok, my amonia is at zero, and the pH mathces the river. I will try to set a divider in place. He doesnt eat life foods at the time, he is eating cod from my local fish market which I cut into chunks for him. He is still active and normal breathing. Well, I dropped in the pills last night, and for some reason, he does look like his scales are comin back, and his fins looked like they stopped deteriorating. I guess I will stop with the meds, and use the divider, and if it does not work, I will go try the meds again to cure it. First I need to find a divider though...I think the closest thing I have is an old screen from a window... I wont be able to get out to get a divider until atleast this upcomming monday with work, but I will try this, thanks for all of your help guys. And you guys are great, I mean you give me what you know, and then liek guppy goes and helps me research it, I really mean it, thanks guys, oh, and also gals, thank you girls too.

Your welcome

How's the robin?

Ironically, I almost lost my tank as well. The Bergall killed a huge green crab which rotted out the tank while I was away for the weekend. I come back, the crab is dead, two other large crabs kicked it, several gobies, & the bergall.

Two gobies and the killies + numerous small crabs are ok. Massive water changes seem to be bringing everyone back. Fortunately, the snails made it as well.

lol you just got to love those annoying little snails!!! They just dont like leaving ^_^

Hey Ash, unlike most freshwater Malaysian trumpet snails, these guys are about 1/2" long and thick, with black shells. Yeah, it's hard to kill them!

The tank is doing so much better after emergency measures, but it still has a way to go. Killies are tough

that stinks, I though it might be those small annoying little guys that just never go away >__< I had them for the longest time. Yah I just took out my fish and thew anything I could think of that would kill them into the water then I dumped it after they wouldnt go away and completely re-cleaned my tank with aquarium safe stuff and then they died off =) Mine were like small then a pinky nail and had those light brownish colored shells. Ne who good luck with yours!
