Sick turtle???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You should get a heater and heat up the water. Then see if the turtle recovers. I saw in the internet that turtles might need to be taken to the vet.

So my boss has two turtles, and one of them is not doing well. He has gotten very lathargic and drags some of his limbs. (I repeating what he told me this morning). He apparently just lies on the bottom of the tank. My boss was asking me if he should take him to a vet or what. I don't know much about turtles. I've been trying to get my boss to upgrade to a bigger tank, and stop using ditilled water. I know that both of the turtles have shell rot. So, what should I suggest to him? Hopefully he'll start listening to me.

first off have him take those fellas to the vet

if never heard of shell rot

sound like softening of the shell, is the turtle getting enough vitamins and calcium?

if it is shell rot the water must not be very clean, he should do big water changes every day

weekly if he uses a filter

if he does use heat and uv lamp then it may not be suffient enough

have him use a higher watage bulb and use more than one flouresent tube

and if he hasent already after the vet has check them out and threated them

have him offer them a varied diet

I feel bad for those turtles, shell rot? what's wrong with your boss? he should have had them to the vet a long time ago. hopefully, they'll be ok.
