I noticed late last week that my uaru had what looked like a wound or scrape on his side but thought very little of it becouse he has scrapes on his head and body on a pretty regular basis becouse he thinks he is a lot tougher then he actually is and is constantly trying to push around the severum and nicaraguan he hangs out with.
Normally they go away after a few days but this one started to get bigger, and he seems to have lost appitite.
I moved him to a quarantine tank and put in Maracyn Plus last night incase its a bacteria thats the cause, but I dont really know..
I am really worried about him becouse he is one of my favorite fish and it would be terrible to lose him.

Can't see pic, too small.

Could be an ulcer (my Koi have gotten them before). Can use Potassium Permanganate (Buy at Lowes in Pool Cleaner dept) and make paste and apply only to wound. Then put fish back into tank. (wear gloves, PP is a carcinogen). PP is harsh, but will kill ALL pathogens!

I don't think anyone has ever taken my advice for the PP fix. However, could use medication from Petsmart/Petco also (maracyn, Fungus clear, or just keep water clean with frequent w/c)

Good luck!!! :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

thanks alex I might resort to potassium permanganate if it doesnt pic up here in a few days, I will try to get a bigger pic but my camera is horrible.

ok so at the bottom of the wound there looks to be a white fuzzy cotton ball like growth goin on, any ideas? any help would be appreciated.

if its infected i would say mela fix and pima fix and some sand plus higher temp

im using maracyn plus right now along with salt,i have heard that raising the temp can cause the bacteria/fungus to spread faster.
I will try the pimafix/melafix combo later if the maracyn dosnt work but honestly I dont think he is gonna last that long, he is just laying on the bottom now not swimming. pretty depressing, he is my favorite fish.

ok so the sore/wound is now all the way from his lateral line to the bottom of his stomach, it has spread by about 25% since yesterday and the white cottony fungus has doubled WTF, how long should I keep the Maracyn+ and salt up before trying something else? its been 3 days and he is steadily getting worse..
I really dont think he will last the full cycle of maracyn the way things are looking.

You can try a salt bath (4 tablespoons aquarium salt in 1 gallon of water for 30 seconds; remove if fish starts to show problems).

OR you can try a salt paste. Put the salt onto the wound, allow to sit for 30 seconds, then place fish back into tank.

At this point, PimaFix won't be of any help (Pimafix is more of a preventive).

How deep is the wound? If it is still superficial (not very deep) you can still try Potassium Permanganate or Hydrogen Peroxide. If it is deep, I wouldn't use PP or HP (as PP and HP kill ALL tissue they come in contact with; infected tissue and healthy tissue)

Good luck. Keep us updated with progress.
