Jcardona is right. I was talking about that particular pest. My choice of treatment is either dimilin or trichlorfon. Trichlorfon is a dangerous chemical though. I have a feeling UK would not allow circulation of this chemical. Dimilin inhibits their growth and it can seep through their shell by destroying it and penetrating their innards thus killing them in the process.

I've pried off a lot of fish lice with my goldfish before. Not a pleasant experience and black goldfish make it worse because I can barely see fish lice scuttling around fin bases and gill areas trying to shield themselves from being found and removed with tweezers. The only reason adults are removed is they require high concentrations of chemicals in order to be eradicated. The meds will have to focus on the emerging juveniles.

thanks for the helpful replies, lup! i was thinking maybe we should pull them off after a few days of treating. we have another pond that we can use after we've pulled the nasty little creatures off. i guess we will try to medicate this week, see what happens then a few days later just pull off anything that are on the fish.

another quick ques: if we pull the argulus off the fish, will this damage the fish? or will they be ok? i mean can the argulus attach themselves on to the fish. they seem to be weak already, last time i could see they were struggling to hang on to the koi when they were swimming against the current.

They can damage the fish. If you see red blotches, apply iodine solution using a Q-tip. Don't allow iodine solution to come in contact with the eyes and gills.

You should certainly ask your local koi dealers in England,
they will probably already have the necesary chemicals in stock...
Practical Fish Keeping Magazine lists dozens of koi dealers in the UK.
My favorite product we use here is Aquarium Products Life-Bearer.

hmm wonder why i didnt think of that lol? im subscribed to pfk haha. thanks, i will look into it :)

so after dosing with potassium permanagenate all of the argulus are dead! just the eggs remain, even the adult ones have gone. im guessing the eggs are not viable, but redosing just to make sure all have been killed off. :D:D:D

Continue the treatment, Neer. Those eggs may still hatch if you keep your guard off and lift the treatment.
