a lot of people use it to kill BBA. excel can also kill vals and anacharis

When using excel with anacharis, vals, some moss you will initially get a melt back and then they will grow back much better than before.

Sort of like the traditional crypt melt most people see with new crypts.

I have spiral and jungle vals as well as anacharis in 4 of my planted tanks that receive daily doses of excel. They have been growing great for the last couple of years. Actually 3 initial plants have now furnished all 4 tanks with 2 spirial and 2 jungle as well as 5-6 10" stems of anacharis.

My 20 wide recieves 1 cap full per day of excel which would be a serious overdose according to the instruction on the bottle. I do this because the light is high and there is no co2. This tank has 2 marimo balls, 2 spiral vals, 3 baby jungle vals, dwarf sword carpet, cabomba, flame moss and java moss. No ill effects and the marimo's have been in there for more than 1yr.

I bought a marimo moss ball about 3 weeks ago and I can tell the thing has already grown! I don't have a strong current in the tank, but my pleco beats it around enough for it to stay nice and round:)

I've also heard that adding a bit of salt can help out a Marimo ball

It helped mine (I have 2). Tablespoon of AQUARIUM salt (not table salt) per 10g. 78degree water. And you most definitely need waterflow! Stagnant water with any aquatic Plant is death. I recommend some super cheap POS HOB filter for the tank, plus using API Leaf Zone aquatic plant fertilizer once a week.
