sighting cichlids in the Everglades

Cool pics, thanks for sharing.

I think it's pretty cool that the oscar population in Florida has mostly reverted back to wild colorations in only a few decades.

I agree about the natural color, and its' probably because the man made selection of color would make them too vulnerable to predators.
The pond was filled with 3" juvies that blended in well with the pea soup turbidity caused by free floating algae.

^ no it wouldn't lol, it would be sweet to go to the atabapo and fish for them

Really cool shots duanes, I wonder oif people eat the Oscars? They get pretty chunky

Yup. My grandfather visited a friend in Florida and they caught and fried some up. Good eating from what I hear

I feel bad for all the native fish down their being deprived of food but at the same time think it's cool to see such beautiful fish down there.
I have to go fishing there at some point targeting invasives, who says you need to go to the amazon to catch Peacock Bass!

I agree, there are way too many invasive species already.
I probably should have posted the most common one, the Tilapia.
They were common from Sarasota on down.

I saw them schooling with bass, and among the uropthalmus.
I believe the dark cichlid above the rock is a young Tilapia, hanging out with the uros.

And another shot of the manatee.

and the oscar pond

Catch one of those Mayans and ship it to me

Kinda meant to say instead of oscars i wish it was a crenicichla that was introduced even though invasive sp. are never a good thing. Just a stupid thought, because I wish some crenicichla were cheaper lol
