Who else has a significant other that "isn't in the hobby" ? My fiance says that the hobby is mine when it comes down to maintainance but now I'm getting ready to set her up a 150 wide tank for a marbled African lungfish. If that's all it takes for her to let me do my thing and not get mad about what I spend on my obsession I'll take it!

My wife wants nothing to do with any of my aquariums lol.:)

Hobbies are by their nature personal endeavors. While it's amazing if someone also finds it appealing, the most that one should hope for is that the other person respects, admires and encourages the personal pursuit.

Of course, the most anyone can really count on is a muted tolerance. (Less than that doesn't bode well.)

IMO, you are doing well by supporting her attempt at sharing your interest. Bravo and keep it up. Just be sure to show her tank at least if not more obvious care and attention, and don't be disappointed if this is as far as she goes. She may even lose interest one day, but will remember that the door is open if she wants to try again.

And don't forget to reciprocate.

My gf loves animals and she loves the fish.....she always supports me in this hobby and doesn't complain when I add or tear down a tank....

Although when I do end up selling or replacing a tank she does tend to ***** about me getting rid of certain fish but she never helps with aquarium maintenance reguardless if she picks out the fish

As long as your significant other supports ur hobby even hough they might not enjoy it themselves........ then they def are a keeper

If she hates it and demands u not to have any sort of fish tank at all....get rid of that chick bc there's gonna be more problems in the future hahah

She got hooked on lungfish when I had my SA in a community.. Grew him from 5" to 2' before he jumped tank.. Now I have a bigger more suited tank that I can do a solo African in so win win
