i have silica sand in my rays tank bead and the silica sand seems to stick to my ray it dosent seem to bother her she still burys herself in it but its kinda annoying to look at, the ray looks skinny in the pics becuse thats before i got her to eat. but i just wanted to know if silica sand will harm her?

really good to know it seems sooo damm soft to the toutch tho:confused: thanks ill take it out now

HAHAHA! you got the exact opposite type of sand!!!!!! man it kills me because these people have much nicer rays and larger tanks than I and it kills me because most just see a ray in a lfs and are like "thats a cool looking fish i'll take 1 or 2. a week later after googling freshwater stingrays and finding this site their posts are " help my stingray won't eat, or my ray is curling" i try and help, but its hard not to laugh when someone buys the exact opposite of what is needed for rays! just go bare bottom and make it easier on yourself!!! now lemme get off my soapbox and answer your question

if its sand you want and want it cheap go to your local pool and spa joint and buy a bag of NON SILICA spa sand!

or buy estes sand... i just bought the estes black sand due to the advice given to me on this site. the key is non-silica. which you will hear over and over again.

That's funny I actually have contacted my local pool and spa supply stores, and only 1 person mention something other than silica sand; he mentioned this thing called Zeo Sand any1 know anything about this stuff; besided the fact that it's used for sand filters.....can this be used as a substrate. I want to use a fine sand type of substrate but just cant find any does any1 know of anything I could use that is not harmful to my fish. Thanks
