Hello and happy new year to all, i ususally don't post and lurk in the background, reading and learning from all here. here is my dilema, i purchased a used 450 gallon tank that has to be disassembled and re siliconed. i'm at the stage that all panels are off and scraped off most of the silicone, but left with a very thin layer. Is it safe to use acetone to remove that film. Or is their something else you guys would recommend.
Thank you in advance
Richie

I found that acetone wouldn't actually remove the silicone, but worked well when combined with a fresh sharp razor blade. Towards the end, you'll have used quite a few.

Congrats on the nice sized tank!

I tried lift off, and also go-gone with no luck, just finished trying acetone still leaves a layer of sillicone. I guess next step is to try to buff the glass, any other suggestions.

I have used fine grade steel wool successfully. It does take some work but I found it took that fine film off quite well and didn't seem to scratch the glass.
