  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sounds about right :) this is only the beginning. Where are you planning to keep them when they outgrow this?

Just thinking of having another one, fun fish. This is 120g, after he reached 15" or so, gonna move him to my 720g tank. IDK how well he mixed with 2' piraiba but hopefully everything will be fine.

If he outgrew it, there's a 750g pond. Quite spacious. There's also a final pond, 7480g. Also, thinking of building 1 about 30x10x4 pond with one panel window

If I were in your place I would be skipping to digging that post-final pond now (and make at least part of it deeper than 4'). These fish grow VERY quickly and by the end of next year you may need it. From what I have seen, a lot of ppl keeping wels in tanks have plans to make this or that new tank or pond that can hold them as adults...and those future tanks or ponds often never get around to getting made. The fish languishes in a way-too-small facility and eventually dies there. With wels even the 'dinks' can get 4 feet long within a few years.

The lfs owner told me that they grow fast, in 2 weeks they can grow from 5 to 8". That can't be real, meaning they grow faster than RTC. Until I done wc today & measured him. The seller ain't lying.

It'd be better to understand and distinguish a short term growth spurt and a long-term averaged growth. Some RTCs have been reported to put on 4" a month but this rate cannot be sustained over a year.

Mine went from the 2" mark in November to the 10"-14" mark by the beginning of February. They slow down over time but you could still wind up with a 3 foot long fish by this time next year...my advice stands: build that pond!

I have 7480g pond, i think that would suffice for now. Its 20x10x5
