Silver Aro 5' Leap

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
jumped through the front. Must have been going full blast to end up behind the couch. Also the glass canopy was closed like nothing happened only thing no fish in the tank.

I guess now I have room for something else, upgrade to a lei maybe.

That sucks. My aro jumped once but that was because I forgot to put the 72" light fixture over the hinged part of the glass lids. Good thing my wife was home to get it back in the tank. Sorry for your loss.

That really sucks. I lost a 12" bichir that way, took me 2 days to find it (maybe the cats were playing with it). It looks like she was a beautiful fish. Sorry for your loss.

If you are using egg crate as cover then this kinda incident always happen. if you use glass cover, the chances is lower unless the fish is strong enough to lift the whole piece of glass or break the glass...

I don't see how egg crate can lead to more incidents of arowana escaping? Is it because it's more flexible???

Just wondering...

Sorry about your loss. Surprised so many aro keepers still use glass tops and such instead of building a nice wood canopy to completely be safe from jumping aros.

I'm wondering if a heaver cover would of helped? Imagine the energy generated to push a 2 foot fish through the air 5 feet! Most likely if it hit a heavier cover it would of been killed anyway? I had a very large Bala Shark and a Silver Dollar kill it self on the lid of a tank. Now I'm thinking about a net type system that will "give" a little but keep the fish in the tank, then a cover to control humidity? I might even build a lid with a gap, maybe 4 to 6 inches above the water line. I think when a fish jumps in panic mode it's jumping to get away from something? So it's jumping away not straight up, maybe 4 inches would be high enough? Just thinking out loud here LOL

Sorry for loss slowpoke seen this on fh :( but Good thought Egon, just picked up a 16" Jar taped down my glas lids just in case but I got a canopy maybe close up back of canopy so no escape????? How bout some happy in tank pics of the MONSTER
