it never touched LFS water.. it came in next day and sat in the bag til I picked it up. ..basically was only there at the store for 30 minutes.. ...but even so, both the LFS and I keep water roughly neutral.. sometimes slightly acidic.

this fish was swimming the top water most of the time, I only saw it go low in the tank a couple times. down and back up again...*shrug*

that was your biggest mistake

you should have waited at least acouple weeks before you bought the fish.

if a lfs recieves a new shipment of arowana, WAIT.....this is the bigest mistake people make. Disease may flare up under the stress of transportion. Give the fish afew weeks to settle in, ask you lfs if they can hold a cetain fish you want, you may have to give them a deposit fee to hold it, but other may do it for free if you know the right people all depend on the individual store. Even if you pay the small deposit fee, it will be alot better than having to pay full price and have it die in your tank afew days later.

it is pointless to try and figure out what killed it.

Oh Man!! I cannot believe I didn't read specifically LOl I agree with Del hands down.. Never buy any arow til it has been in the store for a while..

nice catch Del!!!

that's pretty much what I needed to hear... although I did specifically order it, it's not something the store keeps in stock. I'm good friends with the LFS manager so I don't think having them hold it will be a problem.. ..they did the same thing with my male ball python.

This is a pretty big shame... I feel pretty bad about it.. I've wanted an aro for such a long time and this one had particularly pretty colors to it.. I was hoping to see them develop as the fish grew up... :P

thanks for the advice.. ..I think I'll take some more time developing the tank before putting another aro in...

I think that it could have been the courami's. My giant gourami always used to pick on my Silver untill i moved it.

actually they're dwarf flame gourami... ....and I did just notice a bubble nest under a few of the lilypads.. :P ahh the non-stop fun of a community tank :P

You mean if the fish was shipped a long way? I don't understand why reducing the number of tanks the fish is introduced to isn't a good idea. Are you just saying that you should let the LFS have the fish die in their tank instead of yours after you've paid three times what they did?

i dont understand what your asking

yeah I don't quite get that either.. ...tomorrow I'm going to talk to the guy at the LFS.. I'm sure getting a replacement fish won't be a problem... but like I said I don't want this to happen again so.. can someone please tell me what I should do to OPTIMALLY setup my tank for an aro as the primary resident.

should I dump the tank and clean it and start over? should I get a crapload of live plants? *exactly* what food should I be giving this type of fish other than krill and bloodworms and beefheart and that hitari whatever it is pellet stuff... and what about feeder fish?? I've never ever ever had a problem with the feeders from my LFS..

ooooo live feeders would be good :) if you have a good supply of healthy feeders go for it, offer the other stuff as well.

observe your other fish for awhile. if they are unaffected after a week or two you may go ahead and introduce another aorwana.
