Silver aro drop eye condition.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'll keep track of my big guys longevity and overall health. He eats a ton of hikari jumbo sticks, crickets, and even pellets intended for the pacus! All the Aros have great appetites and continue to grow... The big silver with the DE is no exception and he continues to be bigger and thicker than any of the others. Never any health issues, ich, gill curl, etc. is t prone to parasites or flukes.... really, health wise, no different than any of the other Aros or fish in the pond with him. Can't say the DE is genetic because I simply do not know... For ,me at least, I noticed the DE a few days after he hit the side of the pond. At first it looked as though his eye was going to fall out! After a week or so it appeared that the swelling went down but he was left with DE. I have 5 other silvers and 1 blue/black in there with him... no DE for any of them and never noticed any head trauma. Also his vision is great; he/she's the first to recognize me when I go to the pond and even takes the food put of my hand on occasion. No worries... Your Aro will be fine.... Just keep up with water changes and proper nutrition.

Yes, please post updates from time to time, even if this thread seems dead. I plan to have mine for many more years to come. My aro definitely does not have an eating problem. He's like a pit bull when he strikes smelts from my fingers. I'll have to use some protective gloves soon. As for water qualities, I'll be building it up, evolving as I learn new things. I'm going to start with a 55 gal moving fluidized bed filter using kaldness k1 bio filter. I'm planing a few more add ons, but that's where I'll start for now.

@808...will do. I'll try to keep everything updated. Just keep that water quality great and you should be good. If your Aro is not wanting to eat it is usually because its not feeling good, which many times is a water quality issue. Also try to get your Aro in a bigger tank once it's possible. If you take care of him you should get many years out of your Aro. Best of luck!

Thanx, I'm just playing the waiting game on my 430 gal build. 1 week to allow the fiberglass resins to cure, 1 week after that to allow top coat to cure, than another week to allow marine silicon to cure after I seat viewing glass. All in all, they'll be in my 55 just till December.
