hmmm, yeah, thats tough. What you could always do is just buy the tank without her knowing, then set it up when shes not home, then just play koi, and hope she'll just let you keep it now that you have it all setup

i always think you are best of getting the biggest tank you can in your house then you wont be able to upgrade in the future so you will know what fish you will be able to keep

Just be sure to make it really pretty. And if she wants let her add a couple of fish she likes. Also a trick I learned is to keep it in your room. Then after a while when they get used to your tank and like it just move it where you want. My mom said she didnt want anything bigger then a 29 gal. Last year for x-mas I got a 55 and this year I'm looking into a 125. HEHE

i also think the best way is too get as big a tank as possible from the off.
moving big fish is a pain and to do it a few times is nuts.
