silver aro in this tank size, ok?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Your tank works out to be 280 gallons, but a standard 240g would be better.

To me, you can get away some with the thinner tank but need length to compensate. I think a 80" x 25" x31" tank has a footprint bit on the small size for a large aro. With the 240g demensions I think most were assuming (96" x 24" x 24") you are OK with having an silver aro until it's about 30" long. To grow that large could take anywhere between 5-12 years, although there are cases of silvers reaching 3' in 5 years.

In the case you misread my last post, I think your tank is a bit on the small size. In order to get away with only 65cm your tank would need to be 240cm(8 ft) long. Having a tall tank does not do much good in adding swimming area for the silver. You would be better with a larger tank.

Would love to actually see one at this size, see this stated often but never with pics.

This ^^^ post was made by a guy that keeps his aro in a 180...

All this talk about aros getting this big in the wild blah blah blah. I thought he was asking how big an AQUARIUM for a silver aro.

IMO you will be fine with what you have. Just cover the tank well and your aro should live a long healthy life.

well.......bigger is always better and frankly a fully grown silver aro would definetly use an entire 20,000 gal tank...but frankly considering how many are stuffed in tanks of 125 or even fewer gallons... I wouldn't feel too guilty putting one in your tank! He will certainly be fine for 3-5 years...and if you have him that long you might love him enough to upgrade :)

YES PLEASE people talk all freaking day about those monster 4 foot silver aros, but seriously I'd love to see an ACTUAL picture or record of a silver even close to that size.
