Silver aro jumping question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
And no body would scare him in my house except maybe the dogs walking by? They r big dogs and they walk by the tank all day. Idk just throwing out ideas.

Only time ive ever had aros freak out like this is when there in a tank thats too small...give him an upgrade and he should calm down. U could also try bunches of floating plants to keep him placid. What size tank is it in??

Ermm this is tricky but i would drain the tank a couple inches and maybe that will help a bit. My jar used to jump when the tank was full. Removing about 3 inches of water will help the jumping problem.

He is in a 125 gallon long (6x18"x2) he just moved into 2 weeks ago from a 80 gallon.
Also i will try the drain idea i have the water about 1" below the top ill drain it 2" more when i do w water change tomorrow.

First he is probably still getting used to the 125g. Wednesday is correct the arowana would be much calmer in a larger tank. Try to just work on one side of the tank at time. Also when he comes to the side of the tank your cleaning just slowly try to pet him and keep the sudden movements to a minimum.

Maybe someone in your household has been banging on the glass or stressing the fish out possibly causing the jumping? Theres so many reasons for why aros jump but i think in this case hes been scared of people. I suggest you should spend time in front of the tank maybe on the computer or something until hes used to you. Im sure that its just a phase and it will pass even if you dont do anything. Weigh down the lids in case tho!

+1

I agree with daniel, i get furious everytime someone spooks my black aro either by banging on the tank or just jumping in front of the tank suddenly. But be more gentle and let the aro get onto the opposite side first before cleaning the tank. Don't corner it!
