Is there any difference in size and temperament between the two? Is one more expensive than the other? Tank-size requirements for the black aro? I know that the silver needs about a 300 gallon.

Blacks are rarer (where i live anyway) ... and hence probably more expensive too. Juveniles are really different looking. The adults are not so different. Blacks are smaller. Tank size requirement is the same.

I will probably be pounded upon but I don't think 300g is a must. 200 is more than sufficient imo

I agree with youctoychick..

Blacks are less agressive, less skittish and stressfull when young, more stressfull when grown.

Blacks have no DE ( drop eye ).

Hehehehe one way to try to avoid DE would be to have several aros ... statistically you got a better chance of having one without than with only one ^^

PS: seriously, that is new - no DE for blacks ... i may have to get one now ( i hold you responsible for the coming expenses lol)

silvers are easier to obtain and cheaper

Blacks are slightly smaller and more flighty than the silvers. Prce depends on location. bigger the better tank for both.Altho the blacks being smaller can live in smaller tanks.

If they were the same price and easy to get I would go the silver every time ( and I have kept both , and more than just one of each)

I'll be waiting:)

Blacks are ugly when they grew up >.< only the finnage at the tail part is black but the body is not. Silver rules! :D

any pix of the "ugly" grown up black aros?

That's just only my opinion :D black arowanas don't keep their black colors on their bodies when they grew up, only the finnage at the back part, making them look like a silver, but black finnage at the back.
