Somewhere lost
I might get a siver aro that has been at my LFS for a while now. It's 8-12", but my biggest tank is a 100(which I know is to small for a full sized silver) I was curious how long it could live in a 110gl stock tank that's 4'1"Lx2'9"Dx2'1"H. I will not get it if it can't live in there long enough for me to build something for it. Just curious if it was a possiblily. I won't be in till dec sometime the build would start(going to Florida soon and getting surgery on my wrist so it's a set back).

I would say you would have plenty of time. With the aro at this size, it will probably start to slow down growth, and if you didn't overly feed it then you would have enough time. Think about it this way, stores often have big fish in small tanks, and they can sometimes stay there for months. so this tank would be good enough to hold it for this length of time, but definitely not suitable for life, as you know. Good luck with it.

Not long at all, average growth for a silver aro is 1-1.5" per month, with growth spurts of up to 3" per month not being all that uncommon. This rate doesn't slow until most silvers are in the 24-25" range. The dimensions of the stock tank would be good for a silver upto about 16". Another concern with a stock tank is having a tight fitting lid, arowana are extreme jumpers the lid must be weighted and all holes sealed.

totally disagree with others. Silver Arowana can grow more then 2' thats true, but it will not grow that big if you have a 100 gal tank. but the good news is your fish will never ever die because of your smaller tank size (100 gal) as far as you are maintaining good water condition. your fish may be grow up to 16 or 18 inc and then stop growing (obviously the growth rate will be slower). plzz feedback

my opinion is so long as u take the responsibility for maintaining the water and accually building him a bigger home (unlike others who say they will, then dont) u will b fine

Sorry I mis-typed the width is 3'. Also I was planning putting plexiglass with bricks for the lid with just a hole for food and the filteer(being canister won't need that big of a hole). Also to the person saying it will only be in a 100gl it will get a bigger tank just need to be built. I feel bad for the aro as it's only in a 50gl tank right now so the stock would be a good improvement, but as said if I don't have time to upgrade before it outgrows the stocktank I won't get it.

I will do so because I want a stingray so the indoor pond will be big enough for the aro and ray, also a lima shovel nose. I am curious is I could add a maganese in with these fish or a bad idea(I already have one but is about 1.5" so not going to be with them for a bit). I need a bigger tank for him and the lima so I will have to build a bigger tank anyways because I don't have anything big enough for them(if the mag can't go with the lima I figured he would stay in the stock tank by himself after the build).

You disagree because you are misinformed and aparently don't have any experience in the matter. You are one to believe that fish only grow to the size of the tank? You state arowana will only grow to 16-18" in a 100g :bs: I adopted a 21" aro out of a 90g that grew to that size(from fry) in 18 months. If you follow the link you can see this;

"We got the Aro June’10 at 2inches (pic 001) and at 15 months old he was 23 inches; weighing 4 pounds"

Which was raised in a 55g tank:screwy:

Arowana tragedy - unbelievable leap
