idk about the bichir. depends on how long you plan on keeping him with the eels and what species you get. some species like the endlicheri can reach sizes up to 3 feet given the right tank size and everything. my endlicheri has swallowed 2 clown loaches and a bumblebee catfish almost half his size and he was only about 6" at the time. once he gets big and bold enough he might go after the smallest one. just something to look out for. i'm not saying you can't do it, but it prolly wouldn't be the best addition to the eels. if you do it just make sure your bichir doesn't get any bigger than the eels and you might be alright. tank size is also gonna play a big difference in your outcome. the bigger tank the better the chances you have of them being compatible. smaller the space the more likely it is that your bichir will become very aggressive and territorial as he ages

I actually have the exact setup you are asking about. Look at my profile picture.I've got a delhezi, ornate, fire eel and silver Arowana all in my tank. I've never had any problems at all.

When I purchased my fire eel he was tiny. My ornate paid him no mind at all. They actually seem to be friends. My delhezi had problems with the ornate though. He was much smaller than the ornate so I had to take out. The ornate was always tail nipping him. I let him bulk up and now they're fine together.
As far as the Arowana goes I let him grow out to about half the size of my ornate before i introduced him to the tank and never had any problems at all.
Hope this helps, but as the above poster said, stick with smaller bichirs. Although from my experience, the eels grow MUCH faster than any Bicher will.

I have an arowana with 12 bichirs at one stage, yes 12. no problems.
but key is to keep the bichirs well fed, ifyou dont they will nip at anything they can.
if you keep them full, well fed - they will be somewhat lazy to 'hunt' like most fish.
as for eels, a overwhelming proportion have advised me never to mix, never tried it - but some do with success.

Wouldn't exact set up he is asking about include a tire track eel also? Two eels can be tricky I tired it with a tire track and fire eel, it didn't go well the TT continually harassed the fire eel..

Don't do the tire track...I had a fire eel and got a TT. The tire track killed the fire eel the second day; they are a MUCH more aggressive species.

The LFS has a tank with around 5 fire eels and two TTs together and the person told that they don't cause any problem

It could possibly work if you get a bigger fire eel then the tire track. My lfs has them aswell in the same tank with no aggression

My fire eel was about 50% bigger then the tire track. Unfortunately, this didn't stop the tire track from killing him..
