Silver Arowana acting weird.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I may have missed...what is the temperature?

Do a water change and do not feed. Turn off the lights.

If you want to keep your PH around 7.0 add crushed coral to your tank about 15 pound should do it,I have added it to all my tanks when they were all low and it has been working well for me its been about four months and it stays the same all the time.Make sure you rinse very well or it will cloud your tank for a while as for the arow maybe he needs some time to adjust to new new tank,I would only worry if he stops eating.

Small arowana are better fed in small amounts 4-5 times a day, could be that feedings are the cause or could be a combination of multiples. To start get your nitrates under control. Hard to believe that the levels were that high with so few fish in the tank. With regular water changes and tank maintenance nitrates shouldn't be an issue. If your interested in lowering your pH you'll have to look into a reverse osmosis filtering system. You'll have to do some research and get a better understanding of water chemistry if you choose to go that route.

Good luck.

Crush coral will not lower pH.

Okay I'll try feeding less at time and start feeding 4-5 times a day. Turns out the nitrate test kit I had was bad. I bought a new one and Nitrates are 10-20 ppm. Ill still try to get them lower though but 10-20 is way better than 40. I probably wont mess with the Ph. i've called several fish stores in my area and they all say the they have never had a problem with arowana's in high ph. I think Ill do more harm than good trying to screw with it anyways!! My aro is still hiding alot but the minute you turn on the lights he comes out and starts looking for food. Hopefully he comes around! thanks for the input

Good luck man. They are such awesome fish, I actually prefer the look of the silver's and blacks. More snake like.

Crushed coral will raise PH I never said it would lower it?
The OP's ph level is at 8.3 and you suggested to add crushed coral to keep it around 7.0. So what are you suggesting?
