I have a 180 gallon tank. despite the facts that the aro will arguably outgrow the tank, how will it get along with my FL gar(currently 14")? i plan on getting the aro at 2-3 inches and growing it to 10" in my 75 then moving it to the 180. i guess by that time my gar will be much bigger but i'm just curious to know if they could get along. tank also has a CK, achara catfish, ornate bichir and fire eel.

I had a 10 inch jardini with a 12 inch gator gar and they completely stood away from each other. Also had a 4 inch gator with a 5 inch silver and they also stood away from each other but I could see them having problems at bigger sizes

well ive heard of guys keep them together with no issue's... i have 2 aro's about 9" and one fl gar bout 6-7" and they all stay away form one another, mostly the gar just hangs out in one area and dont bother with no one... all ya can do is ty it and be prepared for the worst some stuff works and other stuff doesnt ....just make sure ya have somewere to put one of them if it get outta hand

I had kept a 14 inch Aro with a 12 inch Florida, 12 inch Shortnose and a 7 inch Florida with no issues. For the most part these fish aren't territorial they're just predatory the only problem that might arise( a problem which I never had) was that the Aro might get spooked by the Gars. Gars sleep on the aquarium floor and become active again around dawn in my experience and the Aro might get spooked by the Gar rising from beneath in low light conditions.

im more worried that the aro might beat up the gar. that has been my biggest concern so far. my fl has been a very passive fish.

I've kept 2 Silvers and never had them show any aggression except when I introduced a Leichardti of similar size and even then the aggression died down quickly. As far as I know Silvers are considered the most peaceful in general of Aro's, so can I ask why your concerned about them being aggressive? Have you had a aggressive Silver in the past?

ive seen large arowna in with oscars getting along i had a 14 inch gar and i had to remove a tiger oscar cuz he was tryin to kill the gar i know gar are pretty placid im unsure about the arowana i also had a gar die cuz of two oscars

I have a 22"+ arowana, who has been in my tank for quite a bit longer then my two bass 6"mono and 4" tem, both bass like to hang out around the top of the tank and the arowana shows zero aggression towards then he just swims around them he also like to swim around and under my spider wood, although I don't know much about gar I thing the silver arowana is a little less aggressive then most think, but I could be wrong maybe that's just mine

I guess for some reason I had always assumed that they were aggressive to other top water species. thats cool though they aren't and he will get along with my gar. if worst comes to worst then ill just move the aro to my 90 gallon isolation tub until i can trade him. thanks guys! also i'd appreciate any gar+aro combo stories/tanks out there if you got one!
