ah ya i wanted to do sand but we didn't with this tank- i dont think we wanted to spend the money at that point and just kept the gravel- whats the best value/cheapest sand and wouldn't it be a beotch to change the gravel we have now for sand while the fish are living in there and have nowhere to go while this process happens?

sand is cheap... real cheap. dont buy it from the petstores.

its not real hard to change with fish in the tank

-wash the sand
-remove fish into a container that they can hang out in for a few hours
-remove old rocks
-add sand
-fill up with water
-let it settle
-add fish

thats a ruff list btw

afternoon project

ah that is good to hear! Where do you buy it from and what kind (I've heard play sand can be a pain) which is the best to go with? Also i live in canada so I don't know if what stores/places you list will be here but its worth a shot haha

pool filter sand is a popular choice, or buying online can sometimes be cheapest if you want a color (ex: black or white).
play sand is just a pain in that its dustier then the rest which means you have to clean it a bit longer.

i wouldnt recommended sand tube/bag sand, even tho i used it in one of my tanks. BECAUSE they get the sand from random places so its kinda risky but the sand is more interesting i guess

i hope this helps...

PS
ive also know people have got sand from concrete companys, glass factorys, and brickyards.
