I am getting a 6x2x2foot tank in the next few of weeks ,3months at the most . I have a Red Oscar , a Red Finned gaint Gourami and a Comman Pleco at the moment which will be moved into the 6foot tank when i get it .

I was at my LFS the other day having a look at what fish they had so i could get some ideas on what to stock the 4foot tank they are in at the moment when they get moved and i got a bit side tracked and saw a small Silver Arowana about 5inch long and really want it for the 6foot tank but i have read that they can grow up to about 3foot long .

What i am trying to say/ ask is would a Silver Arowana be ok in a 6x2x2foot tank with the fish i have now or should i just keep the fish i have now an not get the Silver Arowana because it woud ever grow to big for the 6foot tank or just not get along with my current fish ?

Also if i can get the Silver Arowana , if you all say it's fine to get one would it be ok to get him now as he is only about 5inch at the monent . ?

how big are your other fish?...oscars can get pretty aggressive and no your 6x2x2 tank will be too small for an aro even for your giant gourami you'll need a bigger tank soon. If your planning to get a bigger tank then grab him if not then i wouldnt reccommend it.

now im not a no it all with aros, but purely coz iv got my eye on one but no i cant have him, id say get him and keep him in the 4ft until hes big enough (almost like a grow out) then stick him in the the 6ft...:)...god i hope im right and the other dont crucify me for saying that  lol.

good luck with what ever you do

i kept a silver arowana with 4 oscars and when i was at work the oscars attacked the arowana an killed him!!!!!

The silver arowana was about 6in and the oscars were about 3.5in.

I have in the past kept 2 large silver arowana (2ft ish) in a 6x2x2 with a red finned giant gourami and thay were fine how ever some do get alot bigger, because of their eel like body thay can move around fine in that size tank but if your arowana gets much bigger than that it may be a problem!!
also make sure u have a good lid on your tank thay do like to jump, and like to jump when you are in and working on your tank!!!!

My fish at the moment are - the Osacr 3.5inch , GRFG 5inch and the Pleco 5inch .

The Silver Arowana is only 5inch so i was thinking if it would ok in the 4foot tank for now with my current fish but i really am not sure if he would last in the 6foot tank for a long time as they grow to about 3/ 4foot long but as i cannt not get a tank any largr than 6foot i dont want to make any mistakes and get him now and the later on give him away .

and yep my 4foot tank has a very tight lid and so will the 6foot one , and the GRFG he should ok in the 6foot tank i have asked a few diffrent people about this and they all say she should be fine , as long i do reguler water changes and have a good filter system on the tank which i will do .

i would say that would be fine you do not often see the big 3ft monsters!!

(this is when people will send in pics of loads of 3ft ers. lol)

do you have just the one osacr?

Yep one Oscar , one GRFG and one Pleco .

So it should ok for me to gt him :D .

Small silver aros are easily harmed by cichlids even half their size. I would recommend nothing smaller then a 9-10" silver.

Silver aros grow very rapidly(average is 1 to 1.5" per month) up until they are about 24" in length. From this point on they only grow a couple inches a year.

It is best to keep silver aros in tanks that are at least 3x their length and have a width/depth at least equal to their length.
